ART | Le smoking by Helmut Newton

I love beautiful pictures and that is one of the reasons I love photography so much. Helmut Langton is one of the biggest names in fashion photography. He has created so many beautiful pictures and all of them have something to do with nudity. As I was just strolling on the internet I came across this item about Helmut Newton. The item was about the famous ” Le smoking” by Yves Saint Laurent.

In 1966 Yves Saint Laurent first showed his smoking/tuxedo for women. At that time  it was a giant leap in fashion. Women in paints and then especially a tuxedo, that was just unheard of. It was a SENSATION!! Some  of the biggest style icons of the sixties wore ” Le Smoking”  such as Catherine Deneuve, Liza Minelli, LouLou de la Falaise, Lauren Bacall and Bianca Jagger.

But   we must not forget another very important part or reason for the success of ” Le Smoking” . Helmut Newton  shot for French Vogue in 1975 the story featured an androgynous woman standing in a hazily lit Parisian alleyway, hair slicked back, crisp white cravat, cigarette, entwined with a model dressed only in black stilettos. ICONIC

“It was undoubtedly photographer Helmut Newtonwho made Le Smoking iconic; his extraordinary capacity to imbue his subjects with a potent sexuality reaching new heights when married to the louche enigma of the YSL tuxedo”

Thank you Anothermag for this beautiful feature on your site!!

Helmut Newton is currently showing at the South East Gallery of the Grand Palais until June 17.
